Every day is EARTH Day~ 8 Tips to Becoming More Eco-Friendly

Happy Earth Day, friends!

In honor of a day completely devoted to our Mother Earth, I wanted to write a post about how we can make EVERY day Earth Day.

A lot of people know about the danger our planet is in, but think they are too small to make a difference. But the truth is, there are billions of people who think the same way~ and if we could change these thoughts and realize that the smallest efforts are the ones that DO make the difference, we could save our world.

So today I am going to share a few ways we can lessen our carbon footprint, and ultimately begin to become aware of how our actions and energy effect our Mother Earth.

So what CAN we do? We hear all about “going green” and being “Eco-friendly.” But what can we really do in our every-day lives that can change our effect on the planet forever?

  1. Use re-usable grocery bags, water bottles, coffee mugs, jars, etc.Β

Buying a reusable grocery bag will save millions of plastic bags from going out into the planet. Using water bottles instead of buying water bottles not only saves money, but also saves waste. Anything that is reusable should be reused. Recycling can only go far, and I know this will probably be argued but I truly believe that most of the plastic that gets recycled ends up in our oceans, which is so damaging to wildlife and pollutes our water. Its hard to begin all these habits at once (trust me, I know! I’ve been there) so try starting with one, and then begin another. One thing I have recently started doing is keeping all my old glass jars, and reusing them around my house. I use them for leftovers, overnight oats, bath&body products and essential oil air fresheners.

  2. Eat. Less. Meat.Β

Meat consumption has a HUGE carbon footprint. It has been proven that factory farms are the leading cause of greenhouse gas emissions and is also the leading cause of deforestation. Most people are so scared to change their lifestyles that they won’t even give the thought of reducing their meat intake a chance. Try going meatless for one day of the week. Try vegetarian options and open your eyes to the delicious and nutritious wonders of plant foods. Just try! The Earth and your body will thank you.

  3. Cut out or cut down on dairy.

Believe it or not, dairy also has a huge carbon footprint. Cows alone release so much methane into the environment. As well as the abuse and destruction that factory farms bring to the Earth, we cannot continue to support it. There are plenty of plant-based options that are delicious and healthier for you. Start with milk, then try mayo. Then maybe even think about cutting out cheese (GASP, I know~ not the cheese!)… But seriously. Cheese is unhealthy, and deadly to our world. Give the thought a try! I promise, it’s not as heart-breaking as you might think.

  4. Walk more. Bike more. Purchase Eco-friendly cars.

In a world filled with fast-paced living it is important we get to the places that we need to on time, but we must try to become aware of the way traveling can have an effect on our environment.Β I have to be honest and say I am a culprit of not having an Eco-friendly car. Its difficult to change all your lifestyle at once, and that is why I am giving multiple options so we can all try to start with one thing. πŸ™‚

  5. Conserve Water.

We always hear this, but what does it really mean? Well, first of all; think about how long your showers are, how long you let the faucet run while you brush your teeth, how often you flush your toilet, how much water you waste by buying a bottle of water and leaving it somewhere… Being Eco-friendly is all about awareness. Just learning to become aware of how our actions effect the planet.

  6. Buy Eco-friendly products (or make your own!) Β

This one is huge. So many of the products that are on the shelves in our stores are so damaging to our planet. They are polluting our waters, hurting our wildlife and also are unhealthy for our bodies. I have began making all of my own soap, bath&body products and have began to make my own household products as well. I plan on writing more blogs about this topic, and also about the wonders of essential oils~ so stay tuned for those! πŸ™‚

  7. For the love of our planet, STOP LITTERING!

This seems so trivial, but its so important. Our green lands are still being consumed with garbage, its so important we do NOT throw our garbage out for the planet to deal with. Throw it in the garbage, please!

  8. Give BACK.

Start a compost, plant a tree, shop locally at farmers markets rather than support mass corporations, recycle, REUSE, pick up litter on the ground even if you didn’t put it there, educate others with compassion, use your energy and space here on this planet to LOVE and SUPPORT this planet that we are so lucky to call home.

Becoming Eco-friendly is all about being aware of how our actions and energy effect our planet. Awareness is everything, tune in to yourself~ tune in to your environment, tune it to your energy.

EVERYday is Earth day, my friends!

Namaste,

Jess

  1. I said the very same thing yesterday, that Earth Day is every day! I too, have thought that I cannot make a difference. Then I get to thinking, my baby girl and I DO make a difference since becoming vegan about 4 months ago. Not eating meat also saves on water as well! My kids and I also pick up garbage in our neighborhood when we see it. I have taught them since they were young that “litterbugs are jerks”! Nice read! πŸ™‚
